Summary:Socialmediaandeducationalinstitutionsaremeansofhumanemancipationfromignorance,theadvancementhumanandthetransferofknowledge.Theadventofsocialmediahasalmostreplacedcompletelytheconventional/ownedmedia,vis-à-vistheradio,television,newspapersandmagazines.SocialmediaandeducationalinstitutionsinNigeriathoughhasitspositiveimpacts,butarealsoembeddedwithmanyothervices.Itisalsoaknownfact,thatdemocracywillonlythrivewhenmajorityofthepeopleareinvolvedingovernance,that’sparticipatorydemocracy.Democracywithoutthepeoplecannotbedescribedasarealdemocracyandcannotwithstandthetestoftime.TheaimofthispaperistoexaminetheimpactsofsocialmediaandtheeducationalinstitutionsonparticipatorydemocracyinNigeria.Thepaperadoptsqualitativeresearchmethodology.Someofthemajorimpactofsocialmediaandeducationalinstitutionsidentifiedbythepaperare;sourcesofenlightenment,meansofdrugabuseandaddiction,peddlingoffakenewsandspreadofviolence.Thepaperrecommendsthat,citizensthatuseeitherthesocialmediaortheeducationalinstitutionsforillegalandunconstitutionalactivitiesshouldbesanctionedappropriatelyandbroughttojusticeontime,asjusticedelayed,istantamounttojusticedenied.
