Description
Summary:ABSTRACT This article aims to represent the "Pombagira" figure, an Umbanda entity, as a symbol of feminine empowerment, approaching the aspects that builds up this entity, and the concept of feminine empowerment itself. The methodology utilized was literature revewing, with the theoretical setting of studies in religion's sociology and anthropology, specially the ones from Reginaldo Prandi. The Pombagira, a lot of times minimized to the stereotype of vulgar woman, prostitute and amoral, contrasts with the vision of women in the patriarchal society, undertaken and seen as "fragile sex". Free and fearless woman, Pombagira takes in the transgressive and symbolic part in the religious space, afecting all who have a contact with her, specially women, provoking restlessness about the limited expectations imposed into them.
