Description
Summary:This essay chronicles the salient phases of the Heideggarian analysis of book 10 of Augustine’s Confessions contained in the juvenile course «Augustinus und der Neuplatonismus» (1921). In particular, we try to clarify the terms in which – according to Heidegger – Augustine has brought about a new Lebensgefühl, where the motif of the problematic nature of existence, which discovers that it is an enigma for itself, and the Christian one of interior fighting, aggravated by the constitutional element of tentatio, converge. In the end it is brought to light how Heideger sees not only a repetition of traditional metaphysic schemes but also the search for a new Zugangsbedingung to the problem of God in the Augustinian analysis of religious life.
