Description
Résumé:In the context of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), the question of the values implied both in ESD as a political project and in sustainable development itself is essential. The decisions made in response to socio-ecological challenges to guide a transformation of social organisation are far from neutral. As future citizens, pupils should be confronted with the plurality of possible options and the values that underlie them. The discipline “Ethics and religious cultures” deals on the one hand with the distinction between knowledge and beliefs and on the other with the ethical questioning of societal choices. After a brief examination of the issues raised by sustainability for human societies, the article explores the place that this questioning can and should have in compulsory schooling and offers some routes to be explored for teaching it.
