Description
Summary:The Syrian god of plague and war Ræšæp is also mentioned in the Old Testament. There he is mostly seen as a god turned demon. But Ræšæp does not resemble the other demons, that occur in the Old Testament. Rather Ræšæp remains a god in the Old Testament, but is completely subordinated under the one supreme god YHWH. But if YHWH is the ruler of the god of the plague and sends him, the question of YHWH’s dark side must be adressed. Several texts, that deal with this problem, will be discussed, esp. Hab 3.
