| Summary: | Between 8 September 1943 and 4-5 June 1944, during the Nazi occupation of the Italian capital, several religious houses in the Monti quarter and the Santa Maria parish buildings became refugee centers. Some Jews took refuge within the walls of those houses, which were founded by previous popes for their conversion. The oral testimonies collected from the Monti residents by don Federico Corrubolo, the parish priest from 2001 to 2010, are placed here in relation to the clandestine refuge locations to which they refer, with photos and descriptions of several particular sites. |
