| Zusammenfassung: | When we regard the specifics of ancient Greek civilization, especially its origins and the dramatic development, it is worth to mention fact that this phenomenon couldn't take place the in complete isolation to its surroundings. The lecture of ancient texts - starting from the Iliad to the Odyssey - we may conclude that their author did regard Greek-Egyptian relations as important. Egyptian influence allegedly took place already in mythical times and manifested especially in the religious sphere: Melampus brought the Dionysus cult into Greece, the Danaids the ritual of Tesmoforias, and a Thebes priestess had started an oracle in Delphi. Beside that, journey to Egypt were undertaken by Perseus, Hercules, Io, Apis (mythical king Argos), Helen, Menelaos and Orpheus. In historical times for the teachings of Egyptian priests (a special role had been played here by the temples Heliopolis, Thebes, Memphis and in Sais journeys were undertaken by among others by Thales, Cleobulus of Lindos, Solon, Pitagoras, Hecateus of Milet, Herodotus, Democritus, Eudoxos, Plato, Euripides. This way a teaching on the immortal nature of soul and its journey through incarnations had been transferred from Egypt to Greece (due to Pitagoras and possibly also Orpheus), as well astronomical (Thales, Eudoxos), philosophical (Solon, Democritus, Plato) and mathematical knowledge (Pitagoras, Eudoxos). |
