Summary: | Religious picture was formed within Christianity, first not without jars pioneering entitlement to its presence in religion, then evolving also in accordance to the outer of religion artistic criteria. Differences in the attitude towards pictures constitute the rudimentary differences between the main groups of Christianity. While an orthodox icon is believed to be an image directly associated to the sanctity and needing strict iconographic rules, the pictures in Catholicism have fluctuated as far as a meaning bound to their origin, functions, form and subject matter, the strength of the influence on a looker-on and of the sacredness radiation are concerned. Contemporaneousness, bringing such phenomena as art crisis and secularisation, stimulates questions of present-day meanings of religious pictures. |
