Summary:Comparableda'wahinmanysocietiesnowadays,LagosStatenotanexception,hasbeenfacingsomechallengesfrombothMuslimandnon-Muslimscholars.Theirclaimsamongothersare:ProphetMuhammaddidnotpreachwiththeBible.ProphetMuhammaddidn'tcondemnanyProphetasmanycomparatorsdo,etc.However,thispaperappraisescomparativeda’wah(proselytisation)inapluralisticsocietylikeLagosstate,Nigeria,withafocusonMuslimideologues’activities.Thepapersubmitsthatcomparativeda'wahisverymuchneededinanelitistsocietylikeLagosState,inorderforpeopletoknowIslamfromascholarlyandlogicalperspective.Thepaperisqualitative,libraryandfieldresearchbased.Thesignificanceofthepapercentresontheeffectsofcomparativeda’wahonIslam,Muslims,non-Muslimsandscholars’positions,whicharefoundedonthebasisofprobingintodoctrinalandideologicalcommonalities,differencesandareasofconfliction.Thestudyrevealsthatdespitethechallengesandhindrancessurroundingcomparativeda’wah,theemergenceofmoreideologuescannotbeoverlookedconsideringsomeoftheyieldedpositiveeffectsofcomparativeda’wah,suchashavingabetterunderstandingofthereligionsinquestion.Thepaperconcludesthatanacademicapproachof‘objectivity’shouldbeincludedintheprinciplesandmethodologiesofcomparativeda’wahinordertoachieveapeacefulco-existence,particularlyinamultireligiousandpluralistic society like Lagos State, Nigeria.
