Résumé: | Socialmediahasnotonlyrevolutionizedmediumofcommunicationgloballybuthasalsochangedthemodeofinteraction,contentsofthemessage,andthetargetaudience.Thenewmediahasfacilitateddisseminationofinformationrelevanttoallspheresoflife.Apparently,severalsocio-politicalandreligiousleadersandorganizationshavecontinuedtoutilizesocialmediaplatformstointeractandconnectwiththeirfollowerstherebyplayingprominentroleintheirsocio-politicalandreligiouslives.Islāmicpreachers(Du‘āt)haveembracedtheuseoftheseplatformstoengagetheiraudiencewithaviewtoconveyingfundamentalprinciplesofIslāmandinvitingnon-MuslimstothefoldofIslām.Thus,IslāmemphasizesthatDu‘ātapplylogic,wisdom,patience,andpersuasion,possessadequateknowledgeofreligionandreligioustexts,andadoptfairpreaching.However,contemporaryDu‘ātfacegreatchallengeofimbibingthesevirtuesandrefrainingfromemployingabusivewords,unguardedstatement,assaultorthreatintheirDa‘wahexertions.ThispaperexamineshowIslāmicpreachersinYorubalandhaveutilizedsocialmediatopromotereligiousproselytization.ItevaluatesthesymbioticrelationshipbetweensocialmediaandDa‘wahactivities.ItfurtherassessestheuseandmisuseofsocialmediabyDu‘ātandimplicationsofsocialmediaabuseforthefutureofDa‘wahinYorubaland.Recommendationsaremadeinthelightofresearchfindings. |
