| Summary: | Cup 13521 in the National Museum in Copenhagen has a number of exceptional iconographic features that make it a unique variant in the series of depictions of warriors playing pente grammai. These variants, in relation to the iconography of Achilles and Ajax at play, have been the subject of diverse and contradictory interpretations. We propose to take up this dossier again in order to clarify the details and to test the various proposed readings. The divinatory aspect of such an exercise must not be concealed, and along the way we shall seek to develop some rules of the game concerning the hermeneutics of the image. La coupe 13521 du musée national de Copenhague présente un certain nombre de traits iconographiques exceptionnels qui en font une variante unique dans la série des représentations de guerriers jouant au pente grammai. Ces variantes, par rapport à l’iconographie d’Achille et Ajax en train de jouer, ont fait l’objet d’interprétations diverses et contradictoires. On se propose de reprendre ce dossier pour en préciser le détail et mettre à l’épreuve les diverses lectures proposées. La part divinatoire d’un tel exercice ne doit pas être dissimulée, et l’on cherchera, chemin faisant, à mettre au point quelques règles du jeu concernant l’herméneutique de l’image. |
