Résumé: | We propose a review and elaboration on some contemporary theories of Islamic aesthetics proposing the existence of common themes underlying all forms of Islamic art. We will first present the two most important authors involved in the contemporary philosophical elaboration of Islamic aesthetics: Titus Burckhardt and Sayyed Hossein Nasr. Then, we will proceed examining the Qur’anic bases of their positions. The concept of void will be then employed to study some forms of Sufi art, and finally calling for a qur’anic aesthetics to be further developed, to include all products of Islamic art: from architecture to poetry, from calligraphy to music. |
