| Summary: | This article aims to present a narrative criticism of John 1:43-51 that highlights the role of Nathanael as a "true disciple" under the fig tree. Using Mark Allan Powell’s process of narrative criticism, the author looked into the order of events, duration and frequency of events, causal links, conflict, characters, characterization, settings, and symbolism of the biblical text. It is hoped that through this narrative criticism, Nathanael’s story in the Gospel of John can be an example of how to follow Jesus and become one of his true disciples. |
