Description
Summary:Spirituality is cherished by many, including the religious and non-religious, and it is expressed through prayer, mediation, music, spoken word, social consciousness, and in many other ways. Hip hop’s "irreverent spirituality" (Dyson 2001) portrays God on the streets and Jesus as a "social critic and revolutionary" (Cheng 2009) by talking about the complexity of faith and the human struggle. In this article, I will show how hip-hop spirituality connects to life experiences, and offers an alternative expression of faith.
