Description
Summary:This article considers religious liberty in Pakistan through the lens of covenantal pluralism. This theorizes that a robust and relational form of pluralism can be sustained provided that three "conditions of possibility" exist and interlock. These conditions include the proactive promotion of legal guarantees, religious literacy, and social demands for mutual respect. One applies these conditions as a framework to evaluate current affairs in Pakistan. One concludes that the first two are severely lacking due to governance, but the third condition looks more promising and points to the resilience of the people as seen in their cultivation of mutual respect across the nation’s considerable diversity.
