| Résumé: | A new measure of Mystical Orientation is developed using a sample of 1,468 Roman Catholic priests. The measure operationalizes the seven aspects of mysticism identified by Happold (1963): ineffability, noesis, transiency, passivity, oneness, timelessness, and true ego. The scale is shown to possess good psychometric properties. In terms of Eysenck’s dimensional model of personality, mystical orientation is shown to be positively related to extraversion, but independent of both neuroticism and psychoticism. |
