External attacks and economic defeats of the country may become a threat to a religion and may create a feeling that the divinity has turned against the religious practices of the people, It may result in further accumulating rules and regulations in order to win the favour of the deity. Of course, such restrictions and regulations are necessary for the functioning of any society if it is to progress and develop. However, once they unnecessarily increase and multiply, liberation and freedom of individuals may be in danger. |
