Zusammenfassung:The purpose of this article is to promote a debate about the disputes and controversies surrounding the implementation and operationality of Religious Education based on State Law No. 3,459 / 00. This article also proposes to analyze the reasons why Religious Education still remains isolated in relation to the other disciplines that make up the curriculum. In addition, it is dedicated to the discussion of alternatives that can contribute to overcoming the pedagogical isolation of Religious Education. To this end, we conducted a search on the Google Scholar, CAPES Journals and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciElo) portals using the keywords: religious education and confessional religious education. We also did a bibliographic review of printed publications by authors who researched the topic in question. The results show that the tensions in relation to Religious Education have not yet been completely overcome and continue to this day, especially with regard to the separation of students according to the confession of faith, choice of content, hiring and remuneration of students. teacher, confessional model and provision of Religious Education in all stages of Basic Education
