| Summary: | In this article I want to analyse with an historical approach the transformations of educational systems in Mediterranean Muslim countries between the XIX and XX centuries, which led to the default of traditional Islamic education and to the affirmation of modern and contemporary national education. I shall show that the setting of contemporary educational systems is related with colonialism and anti-colonialism (in its various facets: Islamist, Reformist, Nationalist) and with the setting of modern State it-self, with its controversy about laicism of the State |
