Description
Summary:The aim of this article is to bring central discussions in animal philosophy and ethics into close relation with the term "the importance of animal life" and begin a critical dialogue with the "new animism". To this end the article takes up the debates that attempt to define this importance objectively through the definition of abilities, characteristics or interests. This brings up the question: Is the attempt to describe the subjectivity of animals in fact appropriate, or is a definitely subjective perspective required to understand another subjective perspective?
