| Summary: | This study examines the usefulness of pluralist theory in explaining church policy positions on racial and sexual equality. The data do not support the pluralist model. The findings indicate that larger denominations are more likely to adopt strong positions on racial and sexual equality. It is suggested that church policy positions are determined by both the organizational structure of the church and the commitment of the church membership to the denomination. The findings are consistent with Michels' iron law of oligarchy concept. |
