| Zusammenfassung: | Several theoretical rationales were developed which link two types of psychological well-being (anxiety and meaning and purpose) to several aspects of religious commitment. These rationales were tested using a sample drawn from the general population in a large southern city. Of the five religiosity variables included in the study, only one (religious salience) had a significant independent effect on meaning and purpose, and only one (church attendance) had a significant independent effect on anxiety. The implications these findings have for the theoretical rationales and for future research are discussed. |
