This paper draws on the work of Todd Madigan to argue that Lamentations embeds the memory of a traumatic event into communal memory, whilst the trauma narrative of Jeremiah leads to the renegotiation of cultural boundaries, which leads to a new identity as a traumatised society. The distinction between narratives of traumatic events and narratives of traumatised societies offers greater interpretive clarity in the reading texts from this period. | ||
