Description
Summary:As an expert on Chinese political culture, author of a book on Catholicism in global politics, and erstwhile Jesuit, Eric Hanson has written a book on religion and politics in the international system which will be useful to scholars, students, and practitioners. Full of examples and even juicy details, this is a work over which the Iraq dêbacle casts a shadow and provides ample justification for more such studies., But Hanson's purpose is larger: to understand the post-Cold War relationship of religion and politics worldwide, and how that relationship interacts with the economic, military, and communications (EMC) systems. We lack, he says, a theory to complement analyses limited to a single religion or region, and he wonders whether one is possible.
