Description
Summary:Between the end of the 1960s and the middle of the following decade, French Catholicism was marked by a dynamic and complex experience that fueled the religious and political tensions of the time. This is the Rally of the Church's silent ones (RSE). Fallen into oblivion, this particular experience refers to phenomena specific to those years, such as the reception of the Second Vatican Council or the claims defended by a large part of right-wing Catholicism. The trajectory of the founder of RSE, Pierre Debray, is representative of the Catholic intellectual who gains a certain legitimacy in the public sphere. Relating at the same time to the liturgy, the secular, the rites and the political, the rhetoric of the Silent ones is concerned with a representation of the "people of God", where Christianity imposes itself as an essential weapon of the civilizational dispute. In defense of the Christian West, on the basis of protest and collective strategies, the idea of civilizational activism is central to accounting for this collective trajectory.
