Summary:The present work is constituted as a theoretical-bibliographic study which seeks understandings about the practices of blessing in Brazil and its relation with the health field. In a historical perspective, it describes the Brazilian reality regarding popular therapies, which for centuries have been devalued and criminalized. Currently, the concept of health has expanded to include other dimensions, such as the spiritual dimension, because to the new understanding of health, healing practices and popular knowledge have also come to be considered in this context. Permeated by the life story of the healer Maria do Rosário, the work approach a little of this practice and narrates the main changes that occurred in this category in Brazil.
