| Summary: | We have surely come a long way in Jewish-Christian relations. The fruits of the Second Vatican Council - notably the impact of "Nostra Aetate", the Declaration on the Church's Relationship to Non-Christian Religions - are seen in more than fifty-five years of dialogue, friendship and shared endeavours between Christians and Jews. Yet, despite its strength, this new situation remains susceptible to eroding forces of doubt and apathy. After revisiting the significance of "Nostra Aetate", this article identifies five issues that require vigilance and careful attention if the healing and reconciling vision propelled by this key teaching is to maintain (and gain) momentum in the life of the church. |
