Description
Summary:This paper reconstructs Karl Rahner’s entire angelology demonology delivered both as encyclopedia entries personally written by him as well as essays with a more systematic approach to such a topic. In these texts, Rahner will fundamentally develop three aspects: the relationship between humans and angels, the cosmic dimension of the angelic powers, and the demonological backside of this perspective. The heart of Rahner’s whole angelic speculation, and also its most original aspect, lies in description of the relationship angel-universe. We would thus have a theoretical proposal centering on the angels’ (and the demons’) cosmic dimension and function, on their active involvement in the evolution of nature, the history of humanity, and the final consummation of the cosmos. The topic of the angel might seem peripheral in Rahner’s theological thinking, yet, in reality, it leads us to the «laboratory» of his thought. It reveals its method and illuminates his theological perceptions from The Anthropological Turn to the transcendental dimension.
