Description
Summary:This paper highlights a specific stage in the Islamization process, namely when the Imperial Islamic identity shaped by the conquests openly comes in contrast with the appearance of local “indigenous” Islamic identities. The formation of such indigenous non-Arab Muslim groups is therefore stressing how Imperial religion gets locally rooted. This paper further aims at showing how, in an Imperial context, the religious, linguistic and ethnical boundaries that differentiate the groups are reshaped.
