The failure of the church to step forward as advocates and leaders in creating supportive communities that welcome people with and without disabilities on some level places it in peril. However, as illustrated here, there are those doing innovative work in an effort to bring change. If the church is to be truly responsive to its calling, its culture and practices must be changed.
