Résumé: | In the aftermath of the unification of Italy, apparitions of Our Lady or images of Our Lady whose eyes were moving or tearing were reported on the peninsula. The phenomenon had already emerged in the Jacobin triennium and, as then, Catholic culture read there a form of pronouncement of the divine on the political changes underway (perceived as a specific Italian articulation of the outcomes of the French Revolution). The article aims to reconstruct the interpretation given to Marian "prodigies" in the first Italy united by a magazine founded in 1863 with the specific aim of spreading knowledge throughout the country: "Il Giardinetto di Maria". Founded by Giovanni Acquaderni, its development seems to be related to the birth of the Società della Gioventù cattolica, of which the Count of Bologna was the first president. |
