Zusammenfassung:Some of the methodological assumptions operative in this essay are: all faiths express themselves through a variety of forms; one can never observe a faith directly, but only through its expressions; a religion is a shared faith, expressing itself through particular manifestations that have sufficiently shared meanings; one of the forms through which any religion manifests itself is myth. By "myth" is meant a narrative told for the purpose of inculcating a particular sense of the meaning and purpose of life.
