Description
Summary:This fresh series of letters (cf. R Sci Rel 48:209-234 Jl 74) sheds light on two crises which came to a climax at approximately the same time: firstly the crisis that Bremond went through, which eventually ended up in his forsaking the Jesuits while through various literary undertakings (novel-writing, a historical survey of the religious feeling in Great Britain, a study of the psychological background of Christianity) he groped for his own way in life; secondly the crisis in the Church, which resulted first in the action against Loisy and Tyrrell and finally in the encyclical Pascendi. In this situation Baron von Hügel plays the leading part, assisted in a sober yet passionate manner by Bremond.
