Zusammenfassung: | This essay provides an overview of the past forty years of the interfaith movement in Greater Toronto. Four areas of interfaith activities are addressed: building trust through interfaith relationships, learning about other faith traditions, collaborating on social-justice projects, and sharing in the wisdom traditions of other faiths. Toronto's interfaith movement became a unifying force among diverse faith communities, and for many it contributed to a shift in the way religion is understood and experienced. Obstacles encountered include lack of infr astructure, funding, and skilled professionals, and the erroneous assumption by some leaders of mainstream religious bodies that interfaith activities dilute or corrupt the faith experience of the individual or of the faith community. |
