En novembre 2000, l'Église de Grèce a décidé de créer un Comité Synodique dédié au développement du tourisme religieux, afin que ceux qui sont à la recherche d'une spiritualité authentique puissent être religieusement élevés dans les lieux sacrés grecs. Selon ce discours, le Comité Synodique s'attache non seulement à offrir des vacances qui s'opposent aux modèles habituels d'une société de consommation, mais aussi à mettre en valeur la richesse de l'héritage religieux grec. En adoptant une approche diachronique, cet article montre comment la question de l'affluence des pèlerins soulève, dès le début, des questions autour des risques d'abus : tout au long du xixe et du xxe siècle, le développement du tourisme religieux à Tinos a fait émerger la question de l'argent et de son investissement. Les textes produits par l'Église de Grèce évacuent ce sujet et mettent l'accent sur l'hospitalité, la nécessité de former une conscience écologique ou la conjoncture économique actuelle en Grèce : dans ce contexte de crise, l'Église se présente comme celle qui vient au secours de l'État en esquissant de nouvelles opportunités. | ||
| 520 | |a This article analyses, on the one hand, the involvement of local society in the development of the pilgrimage of Tinos; and on the other hand, the recent institutionalization of "religious tours" in Greece. In November 2000, the Church of Greece decided to create a Synodic Committee for the development of religious tourism, allowing thus all those in quest of authentic spirituality to be religiously elevated in Greek holy places. According to this discourse, the Synodic Committee proposes holidays that contest the usual model of leisure in a consumerist society, but also reveals the value and diversity of the Greek Orthodox religious heritage. Adopting a diachronic approach, this article shows how the attraction of pilgrims has always been an issue that raises questions about risks of abuse. During the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the development of religious tourism on the island of Tinos already raised the question of the money gathered and invested there. The texts that the Church of Greece produces nowadays do not elaborate on this issue, but insist on issues of hospitality, the development of an ecological consciousness, and the current bad economic situation of the Greek state. In the framework of this severe crisis, the church is presented as an actor capable of helping the state by opening up new opportunities. | ||
