Description
Summary:Previous research suggests that religious people often disapprove of homosexual behavior, but they are sometimes able to distinguish between a person's behavior and the person and so behave positively toward gay/lesbian people. Consistent with this, Study 1 found that people high in intrinsic religiosity indicated that homosexual behavior is immoral, but reported low levels of disrespectful comments and physical aggression toward gay/lesbian people. However, Study 2 revealed that people, especially those low in intrinsic religiosity, expect very religious people to behave negatively toward gay/lesbian people. Implications are discussed
