Zusammenfassung:After a brief discussion of views concerning the prohibition of interest, the paper describes some of the equity attributes of interest-free banking. The analysis shows that the risk needs to be considered in the demand for money function because of the complementarity of the demand for money and physical capital in LDCs. The presence of both formal and informal financial markets in LDCs means less spending and higher informal market rates of interest. (DSE)
