| Zusammenfassung: | O presente artigo propõe-se estudar uma devoção religiosa ligada a um espaço urbano concreto - Alcácer do Sal - e a testemunhos que cremos inéditos, e que atestam a permanência dessa mesma devoção por tempos modernos. Assim, procuraremos traçar os caminhos do culto a São Sebastião nesta vila e a sua relação particular, quer com os vestígios iconográficos que sobreviveram, em particular uma imagem de S. Sebastião do início do século XVI, ainda não tratada pela História da Arte, quer um documento manuscrito alusivo a um surto de peste que grassou em Portugal em 1569, atingindo Alcácer do Sal em agosto desse ano, o qual se liga diretamente com a devoção ao mesmo santo. São duas fontes históricas que, postas a dialogar, nos desvendam algumas facetas da vida na urbe em tempos de peste, e do recurso popular à devoção nessas horas de medo e aflição. This paper seeks to study the religious devotion attached to a specific urban space - Alcácer do Sal - and the testimonies, which we believe are original, that evidence the continuity of that same devotion in modern times. Thus, we intend to trace the Saint Sebastian cult paths in that village and their particular relation with surviving iconographical vestiges, specifically the image of Saint Sebastian in the beginning of the 16th century, not yet analysed by the History of Art, and a manuscript alluding to the plague which spread in Portugal in 1569, reaching Alcácer do Sal in August, and directly connected with the devotion to the same saint. They are two historical sources which, interconnected, unravel some of the quotidian and devotional aspects of the urban life in those plague times marked by fear and affliction. |
