Description
Résumé:The article traces back the tradition of the ta'ziyah, the Shi'i plays taking place in memory of the assassination of Imam Husayn. The article then introduces the play "Moses and the Wandering Dervish" (1988) by Muhammad Gaffari, a Persian stage director who emigrated to the United States after the Iranian Revolution of 1979. The play is analysed according to its traditional ta'ziyah elements. The article regards the play as a successful transformation of a traditional religious play into a cross-cultural and post-modern play. (DÜI-Mjr)
