Solche Fragen zu Nation, Patriotismus und Moral behandelt die Studie systematisch in einer Ethik, die nicht nur das abstrakte Individuum, sondern das menschliche Handeln eingebettet sieht in die konkreten Bedingtheiten eines historisch gebildeten Ethos. Durch die Sozialität und die Geschichtlichkeit des Menschen hängen Ethos und nationale Identität zusammen. Es ist dabei die Verbindung von Schicksal und Sinnperspektive, die als Leistung des Ethos im Begriff der Nation die Annahme der eigenen wie der kollektiven Identität ermöglicht. Mit diesem universalistisch geprüften und kritischen Verständnis von Nation, das auch historisch und philosophiegeschichtlich eingeordnet wird, lässt sich der Patriotismus in seiner Legitimität auszeigen und vom Nationalismus scheiden sowie die Relevanz der nationalen Identität für Individuum, Staat und Gesellschaft verdeutlichen. Als konkretes Beispiel wird das Problem von Nationalbewusstsein und Wertetransfer in der alten wie der neuen Bundesrepublik Deutschland vorgeführt | ||
