Major Issues from Recent Studies on the Evolution of Religion and Sociality: Implications for Studies of Religious Culture and Applied Religious Studies

| 520 | |a 본 논문에서 살피고자 하는 것은 ‘종교 연구의 새로운 가능성’을 최근의 진화인지적 종교 연구에서 ‘발견’할 수 있다는 점이다. 이 글에서는 이러한 점을 검토하기 위해서 최근의 진화인지적 종교 연구 중에서도 ‘사회성의 진화와 종교의 관련성’을 다루는 연구들에 주목한다. 인지종교학 프로그램이 가지고 있는 기존 연구에 대한 해체론적 성격 및 그 이론적 한계 탓에 종교연구 일반에 해당 프로그램을 접목시키기 어려운 난점들이 있었다. 그러나 진화론적 관점을 고려하게 되면 새로운 지평(친사회성 혹은 도덕성과 종교의 진화)에서 기존의 종교에 대한 논의를 발전적으로 자리매김시킬 수 있을 것이다. 우선은 기존 종교학 프로그램의 비교방법론을 개선함으로써 문헌학적이고 역사적 접근의 의의가 제고될 수 있을 것으로 전망된다. 그리고 그것과 함께 종교 현상을 측정할 수 있는 과학적 이론의 등장으로 인해서 종교 연구의 새로운 패러다임(‘종교 과학’)이 부상함과 동시에 과학적인 종교 이론의 실용적 활용 가능성도 열릴 것으로 보인다. 그러한 가능성 중의 하나가 실험종교학과 응용종교학이 될 것이다. | ||
| 520 | |a In this paper, I would like to examine how new possibilities of religious studies can be discovered in recent research on the evolutionary and cognitive science of religion. I will focus on studies of the relationship between the evolution of sociality and religion. Due to the deconstructive characteristics of the cognitive science of religion(CSR) with respect to the existing historical-cultural religious studies and its limitations of theoretical frameworks, there are difficulties in incorporating the CSR program into the existing historical-cultural religious studies. However, by considering the evolutionary perspective, it will be possible to develop existing historical-cultural theories on religions toward new horizons (subject of prosociality or correlation morality with evolution of religion). First, it is expected that the significance of a philological and historical approach can be enhanced by improving the comparative methodology of existing religious studies programs. At the same time, with the emergence of scientific theories that can measure religious phenomena, a new paradigm of religious studies (the ‘science of religion’) is expected to emerge, while also opening possibilities for practical uses of scientific theories of religion. Among these possibilities are the experimental and applied studies of religion. | ||
