| Zusammenfassung: | ThepaperhighlightstheroleanduseofproverbialexpressionsintheindigenousmethodsofarbitrationintheadministrationofjusticeinYorubalandandinenhancingpeacefulhumanco-existencetoshowhoweffectiveitwasinthepre-colonialYorubasocietyinmaintaininglawandorderaswellassocialequilibriumcomparedtoourmoderndaysociety.Thisisachievedthroughacontentanalysisoften(10)randomlyselectedYorubaproverbs.Thepaperarguesthatproverbsareusefulinindigenousarbitration,conflictresolution,andinmakingpeopletolivepeacefullywithoneanother.Consideringtheoperationalmotivesinarbitration,thepaperfocusedontheuseofproverbsinindigenousmethodsofarbitrationandconflictresolutionasameansbywhichjusticeisadministeredinYorubalandandasitinfluencedtheinstitutionalizationofpeaceandharmonyinpre-colonialYorubasetting.Italsoexaminesthedynamicpowerwieldingmechanismsofthearbitratorstowardsdevelopingagendaforpromotingpeaceandinitiatinggoalsofharmonyinthesocietybyexaminingtheissueofjusticeintheproverbmechanism.Thepaperconcludesthatproverbsareindeed,vitalinrelationshipmanagement.Itaversthatanybodywithagoodunderstandingofproverbsandtheirimplicationsforpeacefulcoexistence would appreciate conflicts as an intricate part of existence and harmonious living. |
