Description
Résumé:Pazuzu, a ferocious looking demon, was used widely as a personal protective amulet in first millennium B. C. Mesopotamia. Being a devas-tating force that can ruin nature, cattle and humankind, he was able to gain power over other wind demons by defeating them, which ensured his suitability as a protective amulet, whose bearer used "evil against evil ". This usage as an apotropaion is explored and it is investigated, how the harmful power of this demon can be used against other demons, without risking that Pazuzu's destructive potency might be directed against those who want to utilise him.
