Description
Résumé:With a prosopographical approach, the paper analyzes the political and religious composition of the city of Antioch to check reports and interactions between pagans and Christians. Insisting on the policy of individual local magistrates, the author dwells on the Scriptures as subject of conflict between pagans and Christians and on the problem of exegesis of the myths as it emerges in Salustius and in the confront of Diodorus and Julian about pagan allegorization of myths, explaining the Antiochian literalism also by the controversy between the emperor and Diodorus. The contribution raises afterwards the question of pagan awareness of the variety that characterized the Christian world and that of pagan reading of the monastic phenomenon or of the martyrs worship.
