Profanisierung bedeutet: Das Bedingte, das Profane, verweigert sich dem Unbedingten, dem Heiligen. Das führt zu einer Dämonisierung, welche die Gefahr einer Quasi-Religion in sich birgt. Dennoch bleibt das Heilige im Profanen erhalten. In diesem Sinne bilden das Profane, das Heilige und das Dämonische eine Trias. Diesen Hauptgedanken variiert Tillich in unterschiedlichen Kontexten seiner theologischen Entwicklung, die in dieser Studie werkgeschichtlich untersucht wird. [The loss of religious substance. Paul Tillich’s concept of profane] Paul Tillich (1886–1965) had a special interest in secular culture. As an alternative to the secularization theories of Max Weber and Charles Taylor, Tillich’s own cultural-theological theory of secularization is presented and clearly distinguished from his concept of the profane. Profanization means: the conditional, the profane refuses the unconditional, the holy. This leads to demonization, which carries the danger of a quasi-religion. Nevertheless, the holy remains in the profane. In this sense, the profane, the holy and the demonic form a triad. Tillich varies this main idea in different contexts of his theological development, which is examined in this study work-historically. Jin-Ho Suh, Dr. theol., Jahrgang 1983, studierte an der Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary (PUTS) in Seoul, Südkorea, und wurde an der Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen im Fachbereich Evangelische Theologie promoviert.
