Based on ethnographic fieldwork conducted in tower hamlets, United Kingdom (UK), from 2005-2010, this paper examines religious coping among Bangladeshi Muslims. it explores how orthodox islamic frameworks facilitate coping and expands this area to look at how folk islam (i.e., explanations in terms of jinn, sorcery, and the evil eye) are deployed by members of this community and their use of traditional healers in illness contexts. finally, the implications of anthropological work for the rapidly growing literature on religion and health are discussed. | ||
