The gender of respondent and parent and type of rejection were also considered in estimating those relationships. In addition, the study explored the role of religiosity as a potential moderator of the toxic effects of parental rejection. Results supported a pattern of positive associations between parental rejection with dysphoria and substance use, with gender and type of rejection exercising a significant influence. In addition, religiosity was inversely related to dysphoria and substance use. Contrary to expectations, these findings did not support the role of religiosity as a moderator in those relationships. Limitations and implications for future research are presented in the discussion. | ||
