Zusammenfassung:In the chapter on the theologians in the 'Praise of Folly,' which appeared in 1511, Erasmus not only sharply criticizes the all too sophisticated issues of scholastic theology, but also the doctrines which were considered dogmas. In this first edition he already vaguely indicates in what sense theology should be reformed in his view; in a new edition in 1514 he concentrates further on this theme and argues in favor of a more evangelically oriented theology. According to the scholastic theologians, Erasmus here betrays bad insight into the right relation between Scripture and tradition.
