These verses helped al-Ḥamdawī to some fame, the ṭailasān of Ibn Ḥarb however, became more famous. Al-Ḥamdawī found many imitators, the most prominent of whom was Ibn ar-Rūmī. The article presents Ibn ar-Rūmī’s ṭailasān-poems in text and translation, and investigates as to how far Ibn ar-Rūmī modified al-Ḥamdawī’s ideas (maʿānī) or created new ones. In conclusion, some thoughts on the reception of Ibn ar-Rūmī’s poems and on their genre are brought forward.
