It discusses the social work of ritual in constructing and maintaining Sufi tradition in one Tajik Sufi brotherhood and uses this case study to consider the contours of religious revivalism and “newfound” Islamic religiosity in Tajikistan. This paper highlights the active processes of traditionalization at work in Tajik Sufism and the authority-lending and pedagogical capacities of nascent religious discourse. | ||
